Illusion games new release 20143/31/2024 They compared the degree of swaying that occurred when people had their eyes open with that occurring when they had their eyes closed. The researchers got 13 people to stand on a plate that could pick up how their centre of foot pressure varied as they swayed back and forth. They relied on the fact that when we stand, we sway slightly back and forth as we maintain our balance. In a study published in a recent issue of PLOS ONE, Apthorp and colleagues investigated the hypothesis that the more you rely on your vision to keep your balance, the more likely you are to experience this illusion known as 'vection'. "I wondered why some people got it more than other people," says Dr Deborah Apthorp of the Australian National University School of Psychology. They may also explain why some people can become more immersed in 3D movies and virtual reality gaming than others, say scientists. The findings explain why, for example, you may feel as though you are moving backwards when you are sitting in a stationary train and a train next to you moves forward. Illusory movement If you sway a lot when you close your eyes you are more likely to experience the illusion you are moving when you are not, suggests a study.
